20 Marvel characters that could handle rogue Superman

DC fans began to compile lists of characters they thought could handle the Man of Steel if he went dark: Shazam, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Mxyzptlk, Krona, etc.

Then Marvel fans joined the argument, and the fight was really on. DC fans contended that Superman could soak up enough sunshine to nullify anyone coming at him from the Marvel-verse. Marvel fans decried the slight, saying that Superman is a weenie, allergic to green rocks. And on and on.

Fans are passionate on both sides with comments like "Superman smashes his fist into Hulks head, pulls out his brain and spine, tosses them into the sun, and punts Hulk's immediately lifeless body onto a black hole."

Uh, no. There's a little bit of an invulnerability disparity there.

Or this little gem from the physics department, "Superman's heat vision, wont help. Heat gives off gamma rays, increasing Hulk's strength."

Heat gives off gamma rays? Be careful next time you turn on the oven.

So what if, Wunceand4all, we come up with real analysis based on real world metrics, not opinion, conjecture or emotion? See the chart below. You're welcome.

Here's the set up- Superman is rogue, and has been booted to a Marvel universe (Luthor undoubtedly doused him with red Kryptonite and sent him through a dimensional rift, or some such nonsense, and sent out the word to all the Marvel characters that anyone who can subdue him will be granted their heart's desire. That's just for the bad guys BTW, the good guys don't need a reason to stop a threat as dangerous as rogue Superman).

Superman- Fighting Incredible 40 Agility Monstrous 75 Strength Unearthly 100 Endurance Shift-Y 250 Reason Remarkable 30 Intuition RM 30 Psyche Amazing 50

Health 415 Karma 110

The stats are based on the real world metrics set up by the designers of the FASERIP system.

They give a baseline of powers and abilities so that you can compare and contrast (AND BATTLE) with other characters. Based on that, here they are, the 20 Marvel characters who could handle (or try to handle) Rogue Superman.

1) Adam Warlock- he's the guy mentioned at the end of Guardians 2. He is also the guy who has current possession of the Soul Infinity stone. The stone gives the wielder UNEARTHLY (see chart below) mind absorption. Superman's psyche is Amazing 50. Good, but not good enough to resist.

Marvel 1, Superman 0.

2) Ancient One- the person that tutored Dr Strange. I hate magical solutions (I think they're cheap. "Billy we're dead unless we find a way to defeat these 25 trolls! Wait, I found a magic wand in this unicorn's butt! We're saved!") But this is in the context of the comic books, so, Ancient One can fire eldritch bolts, against which Supes has no defense. Ancient One can also erect shields of mystical energy Superman can't breach. Marvel 2.

3) Binary- Carol Danvers after Captain Marvel and before Warbird. Carol Danvers became Captain Marvel after being hit by a Kree machine and receiving super powers. Then she was drained by the mutant Rogue, augmented again by experiments by the Brood, began losing energy and after getting over all the PTSD, she became Warbird. As Binary, her most powerful form, she had strength and solar absorption that was Superman's equal. She may have even been more powerful. She might be able to subdue him to win, but we'll call this one a draw.

4) Dr Doom- he's got a force field strong enough (Unearthly) to make the fight last forever, and he can fire Amazing level eldritch bolts, and if needed can erect a mystical shield.. Sorry friends, but Doom wins. Marvel 3.

5) Ego the living planet- the bad guy in Guardians 2. He's one of the elders of the Universe so he's in a different class, but the question was who in Marvel can defeat rogue Superman? Class 1000 kinetic bolts and mind blasts. Ouch. Marvel 4.

6) Dr Strange- like his mentor the Ancient One, he fires Monstrous eldritch bolts and erects Amazing level mystical shields. Superman has no defense. Marvel 5 wins.

7) Galactus- this one is a no brainer. Galactus has Class 3000 Elemental Conversion, Molecular Conversion, Elemental Creation, and Molecular Creation. You think he's NOT going to encase Superman in kryptonite? Marvel 6.

8) High Evolutionary- a frequent for of the Fantastic Four and Avengers. Like Galactus he has Class 1000 Mental Probe/blast, Force Field at Shift-X, and Matter Creation Class 1000. Kryptonite city. This is why it takes teams of heroes to defeat these guys. Marvel 7.

9)The Hulk. No Hulk could not subdue him, but neither can he subdue the Hulk. We fought this fight in our individual battles segment (in a locked arena), and they both have regenerative powers that prevent the other guy from taking them out. If rogue Superman was really rogue, he would grab Hulk and fly him off to Pluto, and leaving him there to eventually suffocate. If Superman was to just stay on earth he could fly fast enough to stay ahead of Hulk's Class 5000 leaps, causing mayhem. Superman wins this one, given the parameters. Marvel 7, Superman 1.

10) Molecule Man- a really wimpy guy (he's a bigger weenie than Mxyzptlk) except for one thing: Matter / Energy Control - Class 1000 which includes Elemental Conversion, Molecular Conversion, and Power Boost: Owen can boost any of his physical stats to Class 1000 for himself by manipulating molecules. Note that his power is so great he can affect objects otherwise considered impervious to harm, with past examples including the disintegration of Captain America's Shield, Thor's Hammer, and the Silver Surfer's Surf Board. The air becomes kryptonite around Supes. Marvel 8, Supes 1 (to be continued).
